In early June I was able to travel to Miami, Florida in order to launch the first ever, Angel Tree Football Clinic to take place outside of California. What a Joy it was to bring an incredible day of skills development, positive male role-modeling and incredible fun to more than 140 boys from high-risk communities throughout South Florida. We were hosted by The King's Academy in Palm Beach who provided exceptional facilities and coaching assistance. I partnered with a dear friend, Tyrus McCloud, a former Baltimore Ravens Linebacker who is currently a Field Director for Prison Fellowship. Of course, by my side, the entire way was my dear friend and colleague, Joe Avila, who co-founded the original Angel Tree Football Clinic @ Stanford with me, way back in 2005.
The event was a tremendous hit with kids, coaches and volunteers alike. Many of the boys left with a renewed sense of hope regarding their future opportunities for success in life; due to the encouragement and love offered by all of the coaches and volunteers, who worked hard to make them the Stars of the day. For me it was a great opportunity to join with my partner in what is planned to be a major expansion of the ATFC. In fact, many more opportunities are currently presenting themselves to us. Since June alone we have received request from Atlanta, GA (the Georgia Tech football program), Austin, TX ( the NFL Alumni Austin Chapter), Mobile, Alabama (The Sherman Williams Foundation), Las Vegas, NV and Minneapolis, MN. Guess we'll be even busier next spring and summer; impacting hundred's of more young men!
